Lumene Bright Now Vitamin C Shine Control Face Cream

We all know the bittersweet feeling of scraping out the last bit of product at the bottom of it's container. On one hand we know it is time to say a sad goodbye to a product we (hopefully) loved and cherished for its time spent at our beauty station, but on the other hand this opens up opportunities to meet new and possibly better products that are just waiting to be grabbed off the shelf! Am I the only one who gets weirdly emotional about this? Just kidding!

But on a realer note I did run out of my last fav face cream (find the post here!) and it was time to find yet another contender! I had been thinking about a product called lumene for quite some time now and reminisced how great it used to make my skin feel back in the day when I bought it in Finland. I looked it up and saw that you can find it rather easily at stores like: CVS, Walgreens, and Ulta.

So the thing with Lumene creams are that they are a little pricey. The garnier face cream I had the last time only cost 7 bucks I think, this one was 20! It hurt a little but I decided to move on with my purchase anyway. This is for science!

First the description on the Lumene website for the product:

A fresh and moisturizing formula combines antioxidants from Wild Arctic Cloudberry and Vitamin C, which is highly effective due to a special encapsulation technology. The technology enables the Vitamin C to be released steadily and deeper into the skin making the benefits of Vitamin C even more effective on your skin. In combination the Cloudberry and Vitamin C make your skin look radiant and bright. They also protect it against harmful external effects, such as sunlight, that causes premature aging. This Vitamin C Cream is a perfect addition to a brightening daily regimen.
My Thoughts: having used this for about a week now I would like to say that I am very impressed! I love the way it makes my skin look and feel, also I like that my foundation goes on very smoothly after applying this and waiting about 5 min. It does an excellent job at controlling shine with areas like my T zone and nose. It makes my skin look happier, healthier and most of all doesn't seem to be causing any more acne or havoc on my face. The one thing I will say is that it does not work well for severely dry skin! I had a bit of eczema pop up around my eyes and I found that this product does sting a lot when applied to the area. Probably my guess would be because of the fragrance in the product. Other than that I might have to become a habitual buyer of Lumene skincare products!!!

Why Having Anxiety Is The Worst

I've been debating for quite some time about writing this post and opening up about the realities of anxiety. It is such a common problem people have, yet it is still looked at as a cliche, something that is not all that big of a deal. Which is true, but then again it is the most terrifying thing all at once. I decided to list off all the reasons anxiety is the worst.

1. The times it hits are usually the most inconvenient- I get it, there is really no "convenient" time to start feeling anxious and freak out, but there are better places for it to happen other than on your way to work, as your laying down to sleep, while your in a meeting, etc.

2. The reasons as to why your feeling anxious- Oh I just had a random thought about feeling anxious or maybe there isn't even a reason as to why you are in the first place. Either way super frustrating!

3. Losing precious sleep- Your anxiety does not give a damn whether you have an early morning or just got done with a long hard day, if your body decides it time to freak out, well, we abide. The countless nights I have kept myself awake or had K stuck dealing with me.

4. Feeling like a nuisance- There are times when I wake up in the middle of the night and feel anxious but would rather deal with it then wake up K. Not that he would ever turn down helping me, matter of fact he loves to help me in any which way he can, it just the fact that I feel like he deals with it too often. I don't want him to have to deal with my craziness all the time!

5. Thinking you have it under control- Then you don't. For the past few years I thought I had mastered the art of keeping my anxiety under control, lately it has been coming back with two times the force and none of the old tricks are working. It truly makes you feel helpless and trapped inside your own body.

Things that help me get through it:

1. Talking- K has learned that I need to rant and vent if I feel anxious. He will not interrupt me or tell me I am being crazy. He listens and tries to figure it out with me, and that is one of the greatest things I can feel when I am anxious, that I have the help I need, no judgments.

2. Getting up- Sometimes you have to pace, sometimes you have to walk out of wherever you are be it at a restaurant or meeting or bed. Proving to myself that I am not trapped anywhere and that I am free to go as I please helps greatly.

3. Eating- Lol! I feel like whenever I feel sick to my stomach or anxious that eating helps. It takes my mind of things and as long as I am not eating unhealthily I'm doing alright, right?

4. Yoga- Some simple yoga poses and stretches can really calm me down in my time of need.

5. Don't distract, confront- Sometimes the best thing to do is not run away from the feeling of feeling anxious. Sometimes you need to recognize that you are having anxiety, that this is a normal reaction to a feeling you are feeling. Nothing lasts forever and this is the opportune time to figure out what is going on with you mentally, physically, and try to map out what your triggers could be.

Aluminum Foil For Dryer Sheets

I spend more time than I would like to admit on Pinterest. I love the idea of having so much information, diy projects, and ideas right at my finger tips at any given time. My most favorite things are mostly things to do with budgeting and home improvement, because hey, who doesn't love pinching pennies where we can.

Recently I stumbled across a pin claiming that if you are out of dryer sheets you can use aluminum foil balls to substitute for it. It supposedly is supposed to break up the static and make your clothes more manageable after drying. We have not had many dryer sheets lately as we have been staying with a family member who does not deem dryer sheets necessary. Every now and then K and I will buy our own, but there has been more than one instant where we have been doing some late night laundry and found that we have none left.

If there is one thing you should know about me...

I hate static. It may have been the numerous winters in Finland where my hair would always dry up and become staticy or maybe it was the feeling of static clothes clinging on to my body that made me so untolerable to static, but it is just about the worst feeling in the world. I guess we all have our pet peeves.

So anyway, I decided to give this whole aluminum foil thing a whirl to see if it was something I could use long term in an effort to save money on dryer sheets.

It worked fairly well on a small load, it was by no means perfect. I still had a bit of static in my clothes but was thoroughly surprised at the results. All it took was three small aluminum foil balls! I used them on about three more loads. Then came the time of a real test, I usually do huge loads to minimize laundry time. I mix in pj pants, shirts of all kind, jeans, etc. You name it, I combine it. I repeated with the aluminum balls and once the dryer was done, well, it was like I had done nothing to it at all. It came out just as it would have if I had put nothing into the mix with my laundry. Disappointing to say the least.

So in conclusion to my Aluminum dryer sheet test- I'd say its far fetched that I would ever replace my dryer sheets with these, but I wouldn't rule out using this as an alternative when I have no dryer sheets left. They work great on small loads but not well at all on larger ones. It was worth a try! Maybe I will find another alternative eventually!

A Break From Winter

In Florida we do not see a "real winter" but it does get chilly and down to the 50's and 60's throughout January and February. After moving down here, I caught a glimpse of the heatwave that was happening over christmas but it was over before K and I could fully enjoy it unfortunately. Luckily the beginning of the week has been perfect and warm, the perfect opportunity to make a spontaneous trip to the beach to enjoy it while we can.

Luckily it was a Wednesday so there was not many people at the beach and tourists were few and far between!

There is nothing quite like taking a deep breath and enjoying the sound of waves crashing on the beach. This is one of my favorite ways to relax and my anxiety along with my stress just melts away.

I hope you guys are finding the time to take a break from reality and a break from winter to keep your moods high! Stay positive and remember mister groundhog predicted an early spring!
