Beauty Myths Busted

So I went on a search far and wide to collect common beauty myths I am sure we have all heard, or better yet myths we believe to be true as of right now. I am going to do some myth busting right now and set the record straight.

1. Common myth: Shaving will make you hair grow back faster and thicker- God knows my mother tried to tell me this all the time when I was younger. Truth is it won't, you might feel like it does because when it is growing it will feel stubbly and rough which in turn can make it feel more obvious but it is growing back just the same.

2. Common myth: Dry skin is caused by dehydration- Your skin produces oils to keep it hydrated, therefor dryness can have nothing to do with the amount of water you drink. Water of course is essential, lack of water can cause you to look more tired and is necessary to keep your body running as it should.

3. Common myth- Sunscreen is only for hot sunny days- Lies, lies, lies. regardless of if it is summer or winter, cloudy or sunny, you always need to put on sunscreen. The sun's UV rays can penetrate clouds. Yeah that's right, the only time you are safe from UV rays is when it is nighttime. So do yourself a favor and get makeup with at least SPF30 or a daily moisturizer with SPF and use it everyday.

4. Common myth: Split ends can be repaired- Again so totally not true. Products can give the illusion of repairing your split ends by essentially "gluing" them together, but reality is, there is no other fix other than trimming your hair above where the split end starts.

5. Common myth: You can wash blackheads away-  Contrary to popular belief blackheads have little to do with actual dirt. They actually are a build-up of oil and dead skin cells that will clog your pore. You can wash away the clog but it is much deeper of a problem than that, you will not actually be treating the problem at the root.

6. Common myth: Brush your hair 100 times before you go to bed- You will really be causing more damage than you will be doing good.  It is beneficial to gently brush your hair 2-3 times a day to distribute the oils your hair is producing but any more than that and you will be causing breakage.

7. Common myth: You can shrink pores- I wish you guys. Alas this is also a myth, while you can make them appear smaller, they will ultimately remain the same size that you were blessed with. 

 8. Common myth: Your hair or skin gets immune to certain products- So supposedly your skin starts rejecting products that you have used for too long. Nope.  There is no way for your skin to become immune to products.
