Looking To Spice Your Look Up? Try These 3 Tips!

I feel like I am not the only one who just has those days where you feel blah, bland, and in a rut when it comes to your wardrobe. You feel like you need new clothes to reinvent your whole look but trust me when I say you can make do with what you have in your closet. We all go through those moments of wanting to spice up our look to look and feel more beautiful and confident and its really not as hard as we make it out to be. Chances are you have what you need right in your closet!

Here are some ways I spice up my look!

1. I try some jewelry/accessories - I add some pieces with color to spice up a otherwise drab outfit or maybe some bling with bangles, hoop earrings, or a pearl necklace!

2. I do something different with my hair- I personally will pretty much 90% of the time put my hair up into a ponytail. Sometimes it drives me insane how unkempt it looks, I put no effort into it whatsoever so when all is said and done I have all these fly away's pointing in every direction. Take a few extra minutes in the morning and try curling your hair or even just perfecting an up-do. Say no to the bland everyday!

3. I do something different with my makeup- I always do my basic BB cream, mascara and eyeliner. But some days I will add an extra pop of color with lipstick or maybe even some eye shadow. A little goes a long way guys, keep it simple and be surprised with how different you look!

So in conclusion, don't get down if your stuck in a rut, take the time and re-explore what you have right there in your room and bathroom. It is perfectly possible to recreate your look and not have to spend any money on it!

Natural Daylight Vanity Mirror Review

I have always been fascinated by those double sided vanity mirrors. Ever since I was a little girl I always wanted a big ol' vanity table with huge mirrors and just overall feel like I was a princess. Of course I forgot all about this obsession throughout the years but obviously my mother did not. She got me this bad boy from Costco as a gift. Super exciting!
  (Costco for around $45)
So what do I think of it so far?

1. Mimics actual daylight- which is awesome because your bathroom lights can actually be very deceiving, for example a foundation can look like a match in the lighting of your bathroom but the only way to actually know if it matches your skin tone is to see it in daylight, this light is the most unforgiving and truthful.

2. Zoom- For the first time in my entire life, I am not joking, I got my eyeliner to look impeccable. I was so proud of myself! I could actually see where my eyeliner is going and could get that extra detailed view because of the magnification on the mirror.
Conclusion: I love it! I think every girl should have some form of a vanity mirror, especially if you just aren't the pro you thought you would be with eyeliner. You can get a realistic look at what your going to look like once you step out of the house, super good for plucking those eyebrows, lighting is amazing, and hello to feeling a little fancy am I right?

Stay Smart, Exercise Your Brain

It's no secret that physical fitness is essential to feeling good and staying healthy in the long run, diets combined with an exercise regimen are good to have, but are you forgetting something important? We need to exercise our brains! By exercising your brain you can reduce your cognitive decline, letting you age more gracefully.

So what exactly can you do now to help you keep your mind young and sharp?

Exercise- Not only is this good for you but it can do wonders for your brain! There was a study that showed that older men who did  aerobic exercises tended to use the more important and relevant parts of their brain when needed, they also had a shorter reaction time. So what does this tell us? exercising will help you stay sharper in old age and decrease that cognitive decline.

Play games- The options are limitless! Grab a sudoku book, play some chess, make your brain think on a daily basis. Doing these activities can immensely help you improve on your problem solving skills. Lumosity is also a great app to get, they have a wide variety of games to help exercise your memory and attention!

Read more- Not a day goes by when I don't read the news, blogs, books, or even just check my facebook. Reading is a good stretch for your brain, a good warm up and a good cool down activity.

Learn a new language- If you were lucky enough to be born bilingual, you have this in the bag. Bilingual people have been proven to be smarter, it improves your cognitive skills and also helps decrease your chance of getting dementia. There is this awesome FREE app called Duolingo that lets you learn a language for no cost at all. Just download the app, pick your language and cruise through the different lessons. This is actually how I started learning french! Duolingo teaches you to write, pronounce, and read a different language.

Feed your brain- Just as a healthy diet is essential to your physical fitness, it is essential to your brains health. Feed your brain by eating foods that are high in protein and Omega 3.

So now that you know how, make sure you are keeping that mind of yours sharp! Your 80 year old self will thank you later!

"Brain power improves by brain use, just as our bodily strength grows with exercise."

It's A 10 Hair Mask Review

I would like to believe that my hair is healthy, I put a good amount of effort into caring for it. I have pretty much eliminated straightening, curling and using a blow dryer. My hair is naturally thin and straight so it is relatively easy to manage for the most part (other than the fact that it is so flat!) But even with such care, the ends to my hair take a day max to start looking frayed and dry. I think this may be due to the fact that the weather has been getting cooler and therefor my hair has been getting dryer. So I have been experimenting with some hair masks lately, both at diy and store bought.

Recently I found this gem for about 20 dollars at Target. Of course I did not wait to try it out and decided to hop in the shower as soon as I got home!

And let me tell ya!

First impression: As soon as I scooped this into my hand I noticed how pleasant it smelled. I am a huge fan of any smellgoods so this was a huge plus.
I lathered my ends with the product and instantly noticed how it began detangling immediately, I could run my fingers through my hair with no resistance which trust me, this does not happen often.

After hopping out of the shower I dryed my hair and took these pictures:

Super shiny!

In this picture I should have probably brushed it a little because it looks like a mess! I also forgot to take the before pictures cause I am a doofus but trust me it looked a lot duller than this.

Final Thoughts: I would definitely recommend. Smells great, my hair was so soft, and now a day after continues to be very manageable and added shine continues!

What's In My Purse And What It Says About Me.

Is it just me or are lazy Sundays the bomb?
I hope everyone is taking advantage of this Sunday as it should be taken advantage of. I am a selectively lazy person, I will work my butt off during the week but come weekends I am done. There are some weekends where of course, I will go hiking, take a trip to the beach, or do something else fun, but sometimes you just got to veg out in the comfiest pants you got!

My choice for today:
 Super bargain from Ross!

This post is about what is in my purse. What I cannot live without. What without, I would be nothing!
I believe a woman's purse and it's contents speaks for their personality. Are you high maintenance? Do you carry your whole makeup arsenal in your purse? Are you a workaholic? Do you carry around a purse big enough to hide a whole village in it?
What does mine say?

My pride and joy!

I got this at charming charlies and it was truly love at first sight. First let me say I did not know about Charming Charlies until a few months back I happened to stumble across one of their stores. This place is like the heaven of all things accessories! You walk in and everything is color coded, this not only makes it so much easier to find something you will like but is just so pleasant to the eye.
If you have a store near you I urge you to go meet your soulmate store.

 The basics:

1. I have my car keys, house keys and other miscellaneous keys all on a hook.
 2. I have 3 pens and a notepad of sticky notes, I have a serious problem with being over prepared.
3. My handy-dandy wallet, it has served me well in the past few years.
4. EOS lip balm

1. I carry my sunscreen everywhere! With skin cancer lurking in the family history, I am not taking any risks!
2. Body spray, I love smelling like a field of flowers!
3. Lighter, well I do smoke on occasion, stupid I know.
4. Odor remover, for said reasons above I do need to deodorize my car! Having two dogs in the car can take a toll as well!
5. Handsanitizer, in the past I used to work with kids and with kids come germs. I learned real fast to keep handsanitizer ready to go.

Last but not least I always keep a few different shades of lipstick in my purse!

So I guess in conclusion you could say my purse pretty much defines me as a person, prepared for everything but messy as anything ( referring to all the trash floating in my purse not pictured above!)

Why Cetaphil Became My Front And Center

A while back I posted a my nighttime routine post explaining how difficult my battle with my skin has always been. It seems like nothing I use makes much of a difference or on the other hand may help for a while and then my skin just goes right back to what it was. I have found products along the way that do work as well as one could hope, but I will never stop looking for something better!

So I was at walmart the other day returning a ponds cold cream that I had bought earlier on in the day. I had heard such great things about it and hello mad men had an episode on it for gods sake so I had to try it, on top of it all it was the last one so it had to be a sign right? A little after I got home I opened up the container to find  that someone had dipped their finger into it, bummer. I tried to convince myself that it was no biggie and that I could just scoop out that part but my inner germaphobe came out and I decided to return it. I looked it up online to see if it would be a decent price at target so that I could just swing by there to get a new one, and that is when I found the reviews. Now I don't usually base my choices only by reading the reviews, there has been plenty of times that I have ended up getting something and loving it, but these reviews were all the same, change of ingredients has made this product into a mess.

Nonetheless I made my trip to target because I knew one way or another I was going to need something the replace the ponds I was returning. As I walked into the target it was the same problem as always, target is a drug and everything in there is absolutely something you want. I needed the best self-control I had to give to make it into the beauty aisle without impulse buying for something I did not need. Upon arrival there it was, the never ending aisle of decisions, luckily I have a technique that some would see as an enormous waste of time, I research. I pick out a few and then look up the reviews for each item. This time cetaphil won me over.

So far so good.

Now I have only had this for about a few weeks but so far it is amazing. Makes my whole face feel so clean without that annoying tight skin drying feeling. Much to my suprise it does actually very effectively remove my makeup and whatever it does leave behind is removed with my toner.

Putting it to the test: I had this monster of a pimple that decided to call my upper lip home for the past week and would not go away for the life of me, but with just a few days of using cetaphil it started to disappear right before my eyes. Could have been coincidence since it had been there for a week already but I truly would like to believe that it was to the help of this. It is too early to say if this is the right cleanser because it does take your skin an average of four weeks to start seeing results.

Final answer: As of right now, I would suggest this to anyone who is struggling with acne. Works well with sensitive skin and no over drying!

My Must-Have Fall Favorites

I am a huge fan of summer, summer is beach time, summer is warm, summer is beautiful, summer is life. But then when I look in my closet and I see my beautiful fall boots looking back at me, I am glad that it is finally cool enough to break those bad boys out. Over the years I have owned many shoes and lost many due to vicious little puppies chewing them to bits (R.I.P every pair of cute shoes I have owned to date.) But now that my dogs have been trained, I have rebuilt my arsenal slowly yet surely.

Here is a list of my must-have fall clothing to look cute and chic all fall long!

  1. My heeled fall booties- I am in love with these shoes. I love the lace up factor and they are high but not high heeled enough for me to feel freakishly tall. I am 5'9 already so I really don't feel the need to have any extra added height. I forgot where I got these from but knowing me it was probably payless because I am never willing to drop much on a new pair of shoes (this is something I learned throughout losing all those shoes that I mentioned earlier!)

2.  A lightweight scarf- Seeing as it is not that cold yet, this is all I need to keep warm. This scarf adds a nice touch of color to my outfits seeing as I only really wear neutral colors so it really just lightens my outfit up.

3. The flirty fall dress- What doesn't say fall about this dress? It has all those beautiful fall colors incorporated and it is very form fitting. This can easily be paired up with some boots or even some flats. Definitely my go-to date night outfit for fall

4. Boots- I just got these not too long ago and I am in love! These are so comfortable and look so casual and perfect paired with some jeans and a flannel.

I would love to have a trench coat to add to my collection and a big over-sized sweater but all in due time I guess.

Is The Body Positivity Movement Really Positive?

 (updated 08/29/16)

Is the body positive movement as positive as we are making it out to be?

Before I get any further into this I want to state that what I am about to say is in no way intended to hurt or demean anyone.

The whole body positivity movement has started to really blow up. Women are standing up and saying that their size 12 bodies are just as beautiful as any model out there, and I would have to say I totally agree. More plus size women are getting the opportunity to be featured with major clothing brands and even on the runway! This is huge but is this really a push in the right direction? Are we going about this in the way we should?

There are pop artists out there who have made it a point and written songs to empower bigger women like Megan Trainor with her song "All about that bass" or Nicki Minaj and the list goes on and on, but for example when Megan referred to skinnier people as skinny bitches the song instantly loses its meaning to me. You are no longer being pro body positivity, you are shaming women who aren't like you. Isn't that what we were trying to minimize with the body positivity movement in the first place?

I am a skinny girl, I can eat like a 200 pound bodybuilder but my weight fluctuates little to none. This is something I have no control over, I had troubles all throughout my life meeting a healthy weight because I was so tall and simply would not gain weight. This was followed by low self esteem for lack of curvature and just feeling like a giant freak. I have been made fun of and ridiculed for being underweight throughout my life far too many times, but that's okay right? You couldn't possibly be hurting my feelings if you are calling me too skinny?

To this day I still get comments about how I should eat more and how I look like a stick.
Why is it okay to tell skinny people to go gain a few pounds when I would never turn to a woman of bigger size and tell her to lose some?

There has been instances after another where I have felt publicly downright humiliated for my size and build. There was a time when I had just started working at a new vintage store that had opened up, I was so excited to start working there (I live for vintage!) On our first day we had a little get together with my coworkers and managers so that we could share some quick facts about ourselves and tell each other why we are excited to work there. When it was my managers turn to put her two cents in, she decided to blurt out " I am happy to work here because we provide clothes that fit actual women" and then she turned to me and said "sorry Amy." As if to basically deciding to call me out in front of my new coworkers and insinuate that I am not a real woman because I don't meet a certain weight criteria in her eyes.
I have never been so mortified in my life.

This is just a example of situations all kinds of people have been put into by women claiming to embrace all kinds of women.

Body positivity is a huge movement and a great one at that, but we need to make sure that we are moving in the right direction with it. We cannot just empower certain kinds of women and put down others. When did it become righteous and moral to insinuate anyone is not beautiful. We should all be considered equally beautiful and womanly as the next person. You are beautiful whether you are thin, short, tall, have freckles, black, white, Latino, or you are heavyset. No one should have the right to put you down.

5 Things To Do Now To Help Find Your Happiness Later

Life is a long and perilous journey. The ultimate goal for most people is to acquire happiness in their lifetime, that could be anything from money, health or just your overall life happiness. The truth of the matter is, you are the only one who can make you happy, no one else can do it for you, but there are things you can start to do now and I mean right now, to help you find your happiness.

1. Learn to love yourself- as the saying goes you can't love someone else until you love yourself. Find time for yourself, reserve a ME day and love it. Go eat lunch by yourself at your favorite restaurant, watch a sappy movie you love but would never admit it to anyone else, put on that facemask and eat a box of chocolates if you feel like it. Don't judge yourself, be yourself, love yourself, date yourself.

2. Pick up a hobby- Go solo or grab your friend and go to that yoga class you have been talking about and make time to do it every week. So many of us spend whatever free time we have sitting on the couch watching t.v. or just going through the motions of the day that we forget about our health, our happiness, and ourselves.

3. Spend time with your friends- Don't become a hermit just because you have a busy schedule. Stay in touch with those friends of yours because if you don't then why be friends at all. Something as simple as brunch every month can keep your friendships solid and golden. Too many of us let each other drift away.

4. Be kind- I know it is easy to be cranky first thing in the morning or when you get home after a long day of work but fake it till you make it dear. You can actually trick your brain into being happier when you feel cranky, so why even waste your precious time feeling the way you do. Put on your happy music, say good morning with a smile, and always be kind. Your smile could turn someone's day around.

5. Be a sponge- You should always be learning and exercising that mind. Read the news everyday, solve sudoku,do a crossword puzzle, the options are limitless! Your brain needs the exercise and quite frankly the day you say you know it all, is the day you quit improving yourself.

"When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down 'happy'. They told me I didn't understand the assignment, I told them they didn't understand life"
-John Lennon

Fast and easy 20min Pizza Bread

Everyday I am looking everywhere to find different, fast, and new ways to make something delicious for dinner. I am a busybody and constantly feel like I don't have the time to make dinner so when it comes down to it, I will either cave in and go get some takeout or I will suck it up and whip something up really fast. Now the thing is, just because you are short on time doesn't mean you have to go out and spend money and it certainly doesn't have to mean that you are settling for something sub par.

So to get to the point I made something for dinner tonight that combined my love for pizza and a fast painless dinner. I made pizza bread guys and holy bezesus it was delicious.

So super simple you guys all you need is:

1. A loaf of bread of your choice from the bakery (I used garlic bread)
2. A jar of pizza sauce/marinara sauce
3.  A bag of shredded mozzarella
4.  Some Parmesan cheese
  5. Toppings of your choice

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit

2. Get your slice of bread ready

3. Lather on the pizza sauce to your liking

4. Add the mozzarella cheese

5. Add your choice of toppings ( I personally did mushroom, pepperoni, olive etc)

6. Sprinkle on the Parmesan cheese

7. Bake in the oven for about 10-15 min or until cheese in bubbling and a golden color

Tadaa you have yourself some fabulous pizza and enjoy the fact that it only took you 20min
and trust me it will be a hit!

Over the past few years  I have researched aromatherapy in an effort to relieve stress and anxiety, problems that I have been dealing with for quite some time. I am always constantly stressing about the most simple things simply because that is just who I am, I am an over-thinker. So naturally when I saw something like aromatherapy, that could potentially help me with both, I dove in and started experimenting.

Aromatherapy has little research to back it up quite frankly but there are studies out there that prove that smells can effect your mood and even your dreams. I read in the news awhile back that smelling sulfur like scents can actually make you more vulnerable for nightmares where as the smell of lavender can cause pleasant dreams.

So everything you need for aromatherapy you might already have, you can use:

  • diffusers
  • candles
  • essential oils
  • body products

Some examples of what scents to use:

Lavender- Probably the most popular of scents, lavender is uplifting, relaxing and can promote deep sleep in infants and adults alike.

Rosemary- Can help improve mental performance, stimulate the brain, and reduce cortisol levels.

Jasmine- Used to combat stress and anxiety.

Lemon/Citrus- Both associated with uplifting feelings, can be used to fight fatigue, increase mental clarity and work as an antidepressant.

Eucalyptus- Used to relieve stress and promote relaxation. Also works well with clearing up congestion!

Peppermint- There is a reason for the advice, if your feeling tired pop a peppermint in your mouth. Peppermint works as a great pick-me-up, to relieve mental fatigue, and to enhance memory and alertness.

Of course this is only scratching the surface.
There are always more scents to be discovered.

Beauty Myths Busted

So I went on a search far and wide to collect common beauty myths I am sure we have all heard, or better yet myths we believe to be true as of right now. I am going to do some myth busting right now and set the record straight.

1. Common myth: Shaving will make you hair grow back faster and thicker- God knows my mother tried to tell me this all the time when I was younger. Truth is it won't, you might feel like it does because when it is growing it will feel stubbly and rough which in turn can make it feel more obvious but it is growing back just the same.

2. Common myth: Dry skin is caused by dehydration- Your skin produces oils to keep it hydrated, therefor dryness can have nothing to do with the amount of water you drink. Water of course is essential, lack of water can cause you to look more tired and is necessary to keep your body running as it should.

3. Common myth- Sunscreen is only for hot sunny days- Lies, lies, lies. regardless of if it is summer or winter, cloudy or sunny, you always need to put on sunscreen. The sun's UV rays can penetrate clouds. Yeah that's right, the only time you are safe from UV rays is when it is nighttime. So do yourself a favor and get makeup with at least SPF30 or a daily moisturizer with SPF and use it everyday.

4. Common myth: Split ends can be repaired- Again so totally not true. Products can give the illusion of repairing your split ends by essentially "gluing" them together, but reality is, there is no other fix other than trimming your hair above where the split end starts.

5. Common myth: You can wash blackheads away-  Contrary to popular belief blackheads have little to do with actual dirt. They actually are a build-up of oil and dead skin cells that will clog your pore. You can wash away the clog but it is much deeper of a problem than that, you will not actually be treating the problem at the root.

6. Common myth: Brush your hair 100 times before you go to bed- You will really be causing more damage than you will be doing good.  It is beneficial to gently brush your hair 2-3 times a day to distribute the oils your hair is producing but any more than that and you will be causing breakage.

7. Common myth: You can shrink pores- I wish you guys. Alas this is also a myth, while you can make them appear smaller, they will ultimately remain the same size that you were blessed with.

 8. Common myth: Your hair or skin gets immune to certain products- So supposedly your skin starts rejecting products that you have used for too long. Nope.  There is no way for your skin to become immune to products.

Must-Knows For Car Buying

So I am going to let you guys in on a secret. I tried working in car sales for quite some time a year or so back. It was by far the sleaziest, most exhausting, terrible job I have ever had in one of the dealerships with the worst reputation. I was working 60 hours a week, sometimes with no day off. Needless to say I got outta there fast once the time came. I decided to save you guys some heartbreak, I would make a list of things to do and to watch out for when buying a new car.
(also I would like to note, not every car sales consultant is trying to play games, some of them are truly nice people and out to help you.)

1. Do your research- research different makes and models and different dealers in your area. Don't get stuck on a certain model of car just because you like the way it looks.

2. If you have a trade-in, get an online appraisal- Go on websites like Edmunds.com or kelly bluebook and see what cars like yours are going for on average. Keep in mind that this is not set in stone and don't be upset if this isn't the exact price you get, they do not have to put their money where their mouth is, this is to give you a general idea.

3. Also get a quote on the new car- Websites like truecar.com offer you the average price that particular car is going for in your area and most dealerships will honor this price if you bring a print out of the quote. But a word of advice, see what they are offering before you hand it to them or even mention it, in rare cases they might give you a better deal.

4. Shop around- Once you have decided on a car, do not restrict yourself to one dealership. Go to a few in your area, get a write-up of the price of the car and take it with you! By doing this you can haggle the price down even lower, most dealerships do not want to lose you to another dealership.

5. There is no "end of the month sale"- The emails you may receive from the dealer saying there is a special end of the month sale is bullshit. This is them trying to drive in traffic to meet or exceed their sales quota.

6. Do not get bullied into a sale- Just because you are intimidated does not mean you should back down, give up and give in. That is what they are attempting. That is their sole goal.

7. Do not skip the test drive- So the car is perfect in every way, you don't need to test drive it right? no, not right, the test drive is essential to get a real feel for the car, it is the make or break factor.

8. Look out for hidden fees- The price they give you may have a lot more involved than the actual car price. Look for any add-ons, stuff like pinstripes, certain radio packages and dealer fees may be involved.

9. Don't get stuck on monthly payments- The salesperson will try to concentrate on the monthly price, matter of fact it is the only thing they are going to concentrate on to try to divert your attention from said hidden fees or even the total price of the car. You may hear that you have a $250 monthly payment but for how long will you be paying that amount? These are all things to look at before you sign anything.

Also watch out for this:

1. If you have been looking for a car and have been calling all the dealerships to see if they have it, and then you hear someone does have it, don't necessarily believe them. They want you to come in and once you do they will say the car has been sold, they only have it in a different color, this list goes on and on. Bottom line they never had it but you still came in so in their eyes, they still have a chance.

2. Don't believe the calls you will receive saying "I will give you the best offer ever but only if you come in today" Again this is them trying to get you in again to see if they can bully you into buying a car.

My Everyday Natural Makeup Look

So if a girl should have no other established routine it should be your go-to quick fix makeup routine. In this post I have listed my trusty arsenal to my everyday look.

So let's start with the foundation:

1. Aveeno clear complexion BB Cream ($16.99) - A few years back I decided to not use a heavy foundation because it was starting to break my skin out and I just felt like it was too much for the everyday occasion. That is when I decided to make the switch to Aveeno's BB cream. This formula goes on so smoothly and gives perfect coverage to give you an even complexion. Added plus of course is that it contains SPF30 which should be a must have in any foundation you use.

2. True Match concealer ($7.99) - Next up I put this wonderful concealer on my face. I have noticed that it covers my blemished more efficiently when put on after the BB cream and not before. I'm saying a world of difference guys. I feel like throughout the day this does not budge or start to rub off  which I find very frustrating when I work hard to cover-up a pimple and then midday it is more prominent than ever popping up to say hello. Not cool.

3.Covergirl professional loose powder ($5.90) - This is actually the first loose powder I have ever tried. This powder doesn't feel heavy and it feels very clean. The only con with this one is that it can get messy, or maybe I am just not getting the strategy down!

To spice things up in the eye area-

1. Loreal Brow Stylist ($4.99) - Brows are a must for me because I am a blonde so my eyebrows tend to get lost in translation. I color mine in very lightly, enough to get some definition going.

2.Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Gel Eyeliner ($26.00)- So I think the name pretty much says it all. Now when I think Estee Lauder I think expensive, this bad boy here however was only $26 dollars at Macy's and it has lasted me, no joke, two years. Now I know there are rules to how often you should throw out your makeup but this is one thing I just can't especially when there is SO much left still.

3. Almay Intense Icolor Liquid Eyeliner ($4.94) - Some days I just want to use a good old fashioned liquid eyeliner. I got this eyeliner in brown so it looks natural when I put it on and stays put all day!

4.Sally Hansen Eyelash Curler ($4.99) and They're Real Mascara (Free!)- This is probably my most essential part of my routine. If I could only choose to wear one thing out of my makeup bag it would be mascara. It just makes a world of difference in how your eyes look and when your eyelashes are naturally a light brown like mine, its nice to look like you actually have some on a daily basis. So this mascara I got as a freebie from Ulta in my newsletter last month and it has served me quite well. It makes my lashes look extra long and luscious, so all in all, I am pleasantly surprised.

Fun Fall Activities

It has finally started to feel like fall up here in Oregon. School is back in, summer is officially over, the days are over sooner, and the weather is getting cooler. It can be a little depressing when you think of it that way and many people seem to forget that there is so much to do in fall! I've collected my favorite activities in this post and hope that I can bring some light back into your gradually darkening days.

1. Get out there and enjoy that beautiful fall weather. Why not spend more time outdoors, especially when the weather is finally so perfect. No more feeling like the wicked witch of the west when you feel like your going to melt right where you stand. My personal favorites are hiking, taking a stroll around the neighborhood, going to the park and maybe if your willing and able, go camping!

2. Bonfires, bonfires, bonfires. Need I say more. As the nights are getting cooler, take this opportunity and light a fire in a firepit or (if safe to do so) build your own cozy little campfire. Break out the s'mores ingredients and get your loved ones together.

3. If your feeling lazy binge on watching the t.v. (no one is judging here, especially not me!) All summer long they insist on showing all those re-runs but come fall that is when new shows start and old ones come out with new seasons. So light up your scented candles, grab a comfy blanket and enjoy my friends. If you don't have cable and like me, decided the route of netflix then this absolutely is still applicable. Netflix tends to release the season prior right before the new one airs so sit down and enjoy those shows with no commercial breaks. I just finally got caught up with the walking dead!

4. Have a good old fashioned picnic! Take your lunch or your dinner and head on over to your local park to eat and be one with nature.

5. Grab your favorite book and take a seat on your front porch. Tap out of the constant world of cellphones and tablets we seem to live in and take some time to read. I did this the other day and ended up being out there for about 3 hours. There is something so amazing about sitting out there and listening to the birds chirping and the leaves rustling around in the wind. It is the perfect situation to dive into your book with no distractions.

6. Go to a pumpkin patch. Look up to see where and when there will be one in your area. These events are always so much fun. Tap into your inner child and get excited about picking the biggest and roundest pumpkin there is and then while your at it take a stroll on the hayride. Also this is just about the cutest date idea!

7. Have a pumpkin carving get together with the whole family. Have a contest to see who can carve the most original and amazing pumpkin, have some halloween or fall themed food and let loose and have some fun.

8. Get yourself some apples and pumpkin and see what kind of creative new dishes you can make. Pumpkins and apples are in season right now as I am sure you all know. Pumpkins are rich in vitamins and fiber, pumpkin seed are very high in dietary fiber and they are both low calorie (must I say more?) So get festive and make some apple pies, pumpkin bread, roasted pumpkin seeds, the possibilities are endless.

9. Football season! Sunday Funday anyone? Some of us love football and I am sure some of us hate it but don't let that stop you from getting into the spirit. Invite some of your friends over and cook some game day food for your guests. Nothing too extravagant is needed is assure you, I saw a pretty cool deep dish cupcake pizza and what not on pinterest!

Fast Easy Ways To Recharge Your Batteries

Like most people I have trouble staying energized all day, I might even wake up in the morning feeling groggy and that feeling pretty much sets my overall mood for the rest of the day. I set out on a quest a few months back to find ways I could feel more awake during the day and to be able to take on my day more efficiently!

The night before
  • Do yourself a favor and put away all your electronics about an hour before you go to bed. The so called blue light that comes off your screen can suppress your melatonin production, it can also stimulate your brain further instead of putting it into a relaxed state of mind
  • Don't overindulge but donn't go to bed hungry either. It is best to go to bed with a half full stomach so that you are not uncomfortable due to bloating and on the flip side your stomach growling won't be keeping you  up
  • If you can, have your lights on a dimmer. If you don't have a dimmer, turn on a low level light lamp instead to optimize your melationin production.
  • Keep your room at around 60-70 degrees for optimal comfortability throughout the night.

The morning of
  • Don't hit the snooze button. That five or ten minutes is doing no good for you, in fact it could be setting you up to be drowsier throughout your day. Set an alarm and stick with it.
  • Let the light in. Open up those blinds and soak up the sun. The sunlight will tell your internal clock its time to get up and get active.
  • Chug a glass of water first thing in the morning. Before your morning coffee before you eat anything, chug down a glass of water. This will rehydrate your body, keep your digestive system on track and boost your metabolism (need I say more?)
  • Make sure to eat your breakfast. I get it, truly, sometimes you wake up and you are not hungry or you are late for work so you think to yourself I'll skip it. Do your body a favor and eat a protein rich breakfast, this will keep you fuller for longer and also helps you stay more mentally sharp throughout your morning.
  • If you have time whip out that yoga mat. Do some stretches or do a full workout! There are plenty of 10-15min workouts online or on pinterest you can look up in a jiff.

 Throughout your day
  •  Eat 4-5 small portions throughout your day to keep you energized and satisfied instead of pigging out twice a day and feeling groggy and bloated.
  • Keep hydrated. Chances are you are not drinking as much water as you should, so keep a waterbottle with you at all times and keep on drinking.
  • Watch your caffeine intake after 2pm. Drinking caffeine after 2p.m will start to mess with your sleep later, so do yourself a favor and just cut it off the menu for the rest of the day. You can do it!

School Tuition In America

So on a bit of a heavier note I wanted to make a quick comment about the absurd prices of tuition here in America. We have not only a high tuition, but a steep price for books and what feels like a common struggle with financial aid.

So just how much is the average American spending on their tuition?

If your a resident and not attending a private college you will be paying $9,139
If you happen to not be a resident of the area you will be paying on average $22,958
Oh and those books you need for school?  Be ready to cough up $1,146

So how much can the average European expect to pay for school?

Little to none.

So let's say you have gathered up the courage to go and sign up for a school and are in the process of filling out a FASFA. Well you better hope you have a child, are a military spouse or your parents don't make more than the magic number allotted. If you don't have any of the qualifications above and you are under 24 you are out of luck my friend. You will qualify for a loan that is pretty steep and you can forget all your dreams about a grant.

We live in a country that tells you to be better to do better in life, yet they make it so difficult for the average joe to go out and get the one thing that is essential in life, an education.

Meanwhile countries in Europe are welcoming exchange students with open arms to come get their degree for no charge or very minimal.

Why are we setting the youth up to go and sell their souls and be stuck in a position of paying off debt for the next ten years instead of making it the obvious appealing choice?
